24 teams. Two tiers. One promotion/relegation race.
AFL is a 24-team dynasty league that's been running since 2003. It runs on top of MyFantasyLeague but adds something most fantasy leagues don't: a side competition that decides who plays in Premier League next year. Win-loss records still matter for playoffs, but every weekly score also counts in an all-play league that determines tier movement.
Two Competitions, One Schedule
How AFL splits H2H playoffs from the all-play tier race.
Every week each franchise plays one head-to-head opponent β standard fantasy. AL Conference and NL Conference division winners seed 1-4 in their conference; the AL and NL champions then meet for the overall championship. Seeds 5-12 fall into a 16-team NIT / Secondary Playoffs bracket ranked by Power Rank.
On top of that, every weekly score is also compared to every other team's score, generating an all-play W-L record for the week. Season totals through week 17 determine which tier you play in next year β that's the promotion/relegation mechanic AFL is built around.
Premier League β D-League
Promotion/relegation is a final-standings cut, not a bracket.
Premier League and D-League run as parallel tiers in regular season: 12 teams in each, separate cap-free environments, separate weekly scoring (same rules, different opponents).
- Premier #1-#8 are auto-safe. They stay in Premier next year regardless of what else happens.
- D-League #1-#2 stay in D-League regardless.
- The 4 bubble teams β Premier #9, Premier #10, D-League #3, D-League #4 β are ranked together by all-play record at season end. Top 2 of those 4 are in Premier next year. Bottom 2 are in D-League.
That means 0-2 D-League teams promote each year (depending on how D3/D4 fare against P9/P10). It's not a playoff in the football sense β there are no extra games. It's a final-standings cut shown on the standings page.
Keepers, Not Contracts
No salary cap. No contract years. Top 7 from last year keep on.
AFL is a 7-player keeper league. Each franchise picks 7 players to retain into the new season; the rest are released back into the draft pool. There is no salary cap and no auction β non-kept players are redrafted each offseason.

This site vs. MyFantasyLeague
MFL still runs the league and isn't going anywhere. Here's how the two fit together.
MyFantasyLeague is the official source of truth β it scores the games, stores the rosters, and enforces the rules. This site is built on top of it: the same league, with an experience designed around the AFL's rules specifically. The full FAQ covers what still lives on MFL, what lives here, and how to get an idea of yours actually built.
