Frequently Asked
Wait β so do I still use MyFantasyLeague?
Yes. MFL still runs AFL, and it isn't going anywhere. This site is a second, better-looking front door onto the same league β built around our rules instead of a settings page that has to work for forty thousand leagues at once. Here's how the two fit together.
The short version
- MFL still works. The site, the apps, your bookmarks β all of it, exactly as before.
- MFL is the official source of truth. Scoring, rosters, and the rules as enforced live there.
- This site is built on top of it. Same data, better experience, shaped around our specific rules.
- Use whichever you like. Nobody is being moved off anything.
Questions
Does the old MFL site still work?
Completely. AFL on MyFantasyLeague works exactly like it did last season and the twenty before it. If it's how you've always done things, keep doing them β nothing you rely on has moved.
What about the MFL apps on my phone?
Those work too. MyFantasyLeague's mobile apps talk to the same league they always have. Set a lineup there, make a trade there, get the push notifications there β all of it still lands.
The difference is that now there's also an app for this league specifically. Add this site to your home screen and you get one that only has to know about our rules β our keepers and our playoff format β instead of every rule set MFL supports.
If I do something here, does it count?
Yes. Set a lineup, cut a player, make a waiver claim, propose or accept a trade β it is submitted to MFL, the same place it would land if you'd typed it there. There is no separate copy of your team living over here waiting to be reconciled. One league, one set of official records, two ways to reach them.
Which also means MFL is where to confirm something worked. If a move matters and you want to be certain, check it on MyFantasyLeague β that's the copy that counts, and it's the honest answer rather than asking you to take our word for it.
Which one is the source of truth?
MyFantasyLeague, without qualification. MFL scores the games, stores the official rosters, processes the transactions, and enforces the settings. If this site and MFL ever disagree about a number, MFL is right and we have a bug to fix.
That's a deliberate design choice, not a limitation we're working around. A twenty-year-old league needs a system of record that has already survived twenty years, and MFL has done that job reliably the entire time. This site reads from it; it never invents a number of its own.
Then what does this site actually add?
The things a general-purpose platform can't justify building for one league. MFL has to serve every league on earth, so its screens are configurable rather than specific. Ours only has to serve AFL, so it can be specific: pages that know who counts as a keeper here and what the playoff format is here.
Plus everything MFL has the data for but no page to show β franchise history, owner records, rivalries, era-by-era archives, live win probability, searchable rules with an AI that answers questions about them.
Is the league moving off MFL eventually?
No. Over time more of the day-to-day β the things you'd do on a Tuesday to manage your team β will be doable here, simply because it's nicer here. But MFL keeps the jobs it's best at: official scoring, official roster storage, and enforcing the rules. It stays the system of record.
The honest framing: this is a better interface to MFL, not a replacement for it.
Do I need a separate login?
No β you sign in with your MyFantasyLeague credentials. This site doesn't keep its own password for you. Signing in is what lets it know which team is yours, so your roster, your lineup, and your view of the league show up correctly.
Who handles what
Not a competition β just where each job is done best today.
| Job | Where | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Setting your lineup | Either | Either works. Ours is built around our starting requirements; MFL is the one that records it. |
| Roster moves β cuts and IR | Either | Do them here or on MFL. Ours are sent straight to MFL, so the move lands in the same place either way. |
| Trades, waivers, adds/drops | Either | Propose, accept, withdraw and claim right here β it goes to MFL as if you had typed it there. MFL still processes and records it. |
| Official scoring | MyFantasyLeague | MFL scores every game. We read those numbers β we never compute our own. |
| The official record β rosters | MyFantasyLeague | Whatever you did and wherever you did it, this is the copy that counts. If we ever disagree with MFL, MFL is right. |
| Live scoring on Sunday | Either | MFL has a live scoreboard too. Ours adds win probability and who is still to play, built for a phone on the couch. |
| Standings & playoff picture | Either | MFL owns the tiebreakers. We show the same standings with the playoff math done for you. |
| Reading the rules | Here | The constitution, searchable, plus Roger β who answers rules questions in plain English. |
| Draft night | Either | The draft runs on MFL. The board, the queue, and the broadcast view are ours. |
| League history & records | Here | Two decades of franchises, owners, rivalries and eras that MFL has the data for but no page to show. |
Your ideas actually get built here
Every owner has emailed a feature request into a suggestion form at some point and watched it disappear. Not because anyone was rude about it β a platform serving thousands of leagues simply can't build your league's idea. That's a fair trade for a system that has kept our scoring straight for twenty years. But it does mean good ideas go nowhere.
This site is different in exactly one way that matters: the person who can build it is in your league. Post an idea and it gets read, argued about, and β if it's good β turned into actual work, usually within days.
- 1 Post it on The Board. A sentence is enough. Bug reports get a short form β what page, what happened, what you expected β because that's what makes a fix fast.
- 2 The league weighs in. Other owners comment and react. Something with nine π₯ on it moves ahead of something with none.
- 3 The commissioner files it as a work item. One click turns your post into a tracked issue in the repo that runs this site β carrying your words, your screenshots, and a link back to the thread.
- 4 It gets built, and you find out. Shipped changes show up in What's New, and your original post gets marked Implemented. The thread you started is still there.
Rule changes still need a 75% vote per the constitution β The Board is where they get pitched, not where they get ratified. Anything about this site, though, is fair game and needs no vote at all.
Still curious
- How this site was built β the long version, including where AI does and doesn't get to touch the math.
- The constitution β every rule, searchable.
- What's New β everything that has shipped, newest first.
- AFL on MyFantasyLeague β the official league site.
