The Dead Money Awards

Finally, a page dedicated to celebrating the league's worst financial decisions. You know who you are.

The Full Story

For years, the GM MVP Awards have been handing out trophies to the shrewd, the lucky, and the suspiciously well-informed. Meanwhile, the rest of you have been quietly lighting salary cap on fire and hoping nobody noticed. Well, someone noticed. The Dead Money Awards are here to immortalize every overpay, every busted contract, and every player who collected a paycheck and contributed exactly nothing in return.

The Jerry Jones Award goes to the GM whose best possible starting lineup still managed to be the worst value in the league — because spending $32 million to score fewer points than a team spending half that is a special kind of talent. The Brock Osweiler Award honors the individual player who burned the most salary per point scored, named after the QB who was so bad the Texans literally paid the Browns a second-round pick to take his contract away. And then there's the Zero-Point Hall of Shame: rostered players with real salary who scored exactly zero points. Not one. Not a half-point garbage time catch. Zero.

Every season is covered, every position has its worst, and the year filter lets you relive the financial mismanagement of seasons past. Think of it as a public service — or at least a cautionary tale for auction day. Check who's on the list before you bid. Or don't, and see yourself here next year.
