Who's on the App, and Who's Still Living in a Tab

Owner Activity now knows whether a visit came from the site installed on a home screen or from an ordinary browser tab — with the platform behind it, an app-versus-browser share for the league, and a note on each owner's row saying which one they showed up on last.

The Full Story

An installed app and a browser tab are the same website wearing different clothes: same pages, same login, same everything the server can see. Which is why Owner Activity could tell you exactly when somebody last checked their roster and had nothing at all to say about how they did it — whether they tapped an icon on a home screen or dug the site out of a tab they had open since August.

Now it says. A new App vs Browser section up top splits every visit four ways — the installed-app share, the browser share, and how each of those breaks down for people signed in versus people just passing through — then goes platform by platform underneath: iPhone and iPad, Android, desktop, with a bar showing which way each one leans. And down in the Last Seen table, every owner's row now ends with where they turned up last: On App (iPhone / iPad) — 81% app.

The bookkeeping is deliberately thin. Signed-out visitors are counted, because an owner reading the league page without logging in is exactly the traffic the old counter never saw — but they are counted and nothing else: no page, no timestamp, no name. Two numbers go up, and the only other thing that touches the database is a one-minute counter that stops anyone hammering the endpoint, filed under a scrambled version of their address rather than the address itself.
