Salary History Gets the Editorial Treatment

The historical salary trends chart went from bare-bones to best-in-class — tabbed views, accessible data tables, and a design that actually belongs on this site.

The Full Story

The salary history chart used to look like it wandered in from a different website. A basic Chart.js line graph with default styling, a legend that did the bare minimum, and zero personality. It got the job done the way a gas station sandwich gets the job done — technically, but you wouldn't brag about it.

Now it's a proper editorial feature. A segmented control lets you toggle between Franchise Tag, Extension, and Team Option trends with smooth data transitions. The custom legend and tooltip follow the site's design language — muted steel-and-sienna palette, uppercase micro labels, tabular numbers that actually align. Every chart type has a collapsible data table underneath for accessibility and for the spreadsheet people who want the raw numbers. The whole thing is keyboard-navigable, screen-reader-friendly, and responsive down to mobile without losing readability.

It's also the first chart in the editorial design system, which means every future chart starts from this foundation. The palette tokens, the tooltip pattern, the legend style — all reusable. Think of it less as a page redesign and more as the chart department finally opening for business.
